Why hasn't anyone done a 1UZ Toyobaru swap?

It's a nice, small V8 that revs high while making plenty of torque that needs to be put in the that light, sweet chassis begging for a rawer and more muscular engine. You find them in AE86s and even Supras, so what's the problem with them in a new hachi roku? With a GT86, you keep the swap in the brand for the purist and classiness factor as well. (Not to mention the fact that they aren't hard to strap twin turbos to and make well in excess of 800BHP).

Because LS's are waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy more available, have a larger aftermarket, smaller in size, not that hard to strap on a pair of turbos and make well in excess of 1000BHP.

all are good points aside from the last one, you can do that with the Uz aswell and keep it daily driver reliable still on a stock block

The LS will be less expensive and just as, if not more reliable

I like the idea but if you are looking for a "small" V8. LS1.

This is a 1UZ next to a LS1.

Kinja'd!!!

That said, I like the 1UZ a lot.

As a Toyota purist, here's my problem with that, laid out in a mathematical formula explaining why that is not as desirable:

Toyota=/=GM

Just kidding, really. The LS1 is definitely the more logical option, but for someone like me would prefer a kind of "best of Toyota" FRS instead (in this case best of Toyota V8s, since the 2JZ would be a better option if we were considering all types of engines. A 3UR is the most powerful Toyota V8, and ridiculously so with the TRD supercharger kit, but would cost as much as the car itself.)

A DOHC V8 might not even fit.

If the new WRX motor doesn't fit, then this one won't either.

LS1 is the best way to go 9 times out of 10, but I am the guy who can't stand most swaps outside of the family. Great picture, though! Really sizes up the difference.

less expensive? lmao, what? the ls itself would cost more then a built uz and turbos O.o well, a new ls atleast, lol, not dissing the ls family though, I mean.. I'd do terrible things to get my hands on a ls3 to drop in my Z33, lol

True, but they have been shoehorned into Miatas, S13s, and AE86s, so I would assume there is space. It's already been designed to fit a pretty wide engine, since it's carrying a boxer, and it's a pretty long engine bay as they managed to get the engine pretty far back in the car. It's hard to say, though—even an STI engine doesn't have too much room in there.

because the engine you really want in there is a wankel. a 2002 13B-REW.

280 hp, weighs less than the stock motor.

The boxer engine is wide but low, a DOHC V8 is wide and tall.

Reminds me of the NPOCP 300ZX with a bunch of ugly and misshapen holes cut in the hood to allow the 4.5L VH45 from an Infiniti. I guess one could make a somewhat raised section in the middle, but not quite as drastic as those in V8 drag cars with blowers.

Good point. You might even be able to get s 50/50 weight distribution with a rotary up front! Still, a Toyota V8 in a little Toyota sports car just seems so natural.

Just throw a turbo'd blacktop 4AG back there and you're good to go! Just a little prepwork. Removing the seats and seatbelt, then as a finishing touch redoing everything mechanical and structural. Then get featured in every magazine and be a chick magnet.

Here, here. Glorious engines that were 20 years ahead of their time and more seductive than most any of today's offerings. In the grand scheme of Toyota engines, they are up there in liveliness (when tuned for sports purposes) with the 4AGs and 2JZ, while having the bulletproof nature of the 1FZ. There is also something awesome about a V8 with twin cams and 4 valves/ cyl.

They say only the fires of Mount Doom will destroy them. Does your Land Cruiser have the 3F-E, then? Also great engines, but too-often overlooked due to the larger FZ.

I have the 1FZ-FE Solid, but dog slow. of course the 237k miles on it might have something to do with it.

Oh I see what you meant about the 4Runner and UZ. The 1FZ was never built for speed, but 237K will make just about anything feel kinda sluggish. Gotta love Land Cruisers, though; there isn't a single decent one on my local CL. It must be incredible to have one where you can do some off-roading.

What would someone doing this swap use for a tranny? T6 with a custom bell housing and standalone engine management? Mega squirt or something? It must be a pain with all of the sensors etc not using the stock CPU for a base...LS would be easier too.

The only reason to do it is to be different. Going 1UZ adds a lot of issues you wouldn't otherwise have to deal with. Most of the decisions for which engine to use are based around logic. What has the best parts market, which has the best purchase value, which is easiest to work on and fab for, etc.

Different doesn't mean better. If you get one of the cars, go for it, do whatever floats your boat. It's just unlikely to be the logical choice.

why not turbocharge a 2zz then you have boost and lift. Would easily fit and would be pretty decent DD
